Issued Friday 19th March 2010
FUN FOR FAMILIES AT SALISBURY CATHEDRAL THIS EASTER

Salisbury Cathedral is running two days of fun activities for children and their families during the Easter holidays.

‘Junior Craft: Get Cracking!’ is a fun 90 minute workshop in the Cathedral on Wednesday 7 April (11.00 – 12.30pm or 1.30pm – 3.00pm) for children aged 5 –12 years. Brighten up the Easter holidays with some egg-based crafts including jolly egg cups, pop-up eggs, ‘leggy’ bunnies or get messy with some Easter springtime painting. All materials provided. Parents may leave their children and relax knowing they are enjoying a safe, friendly and creative time. Workshops cost £3.00 per child per session. ‘Family Drop-in: Easter Creatures’ takes place in the Cathedral on Friday 9 April from 11.00am – 3.00pm. Families can ‘drop in’ any time to create creatures from the Easter garden by making their own butterflies, bumble bees, bugs, birds or Easter bunnies! Entry: £1 per family member (under 5s free).
For further information please telephone 01722 555180.

Both events are organised by the Cathedral’s Education Department which is well-known for its innovative work with children. No pre-booking is required but you are asked to make your payment at the Cathedral’s donations desk. Sarah Rickett, Head of Education, said “The school holidays provide a great opportunity to do extra special things as families. This beautiful Cathedral has always been proud of its role within the city and we hope these stimulating and entertaining holiday activities will be enjoyed both by local families and those visiting the city at Easter.”

And from Easter onwards there is a new family focused trail around the Cathedral and Chapter House so children can find out about its role as a place of worship, its amazing history and hear some quirky facts and stories. The new trail leaflet is full of fun tasks to ensure there is plenty to keep everyone active and interested during their visit here, plus further follow-up puzzles and activities to complete at home.
