CATHEDRAL LAUNCHES NEW STRATEGY - FAITH IN THE FUTURE - Archived
Issued Thursday 12th October 2006
At a series of events over the last week Salisbury Cathedral has launched into the public arena its long term strategy. Entitled Faith in the Future – our vision it sets out in a very clear and easily readable format the Cathedral's core values, purpose and vision before going on to identify the eight key objectives for the next ten years.
Faith in the Future – our vision is the result of many months of consultations with staff, volunteers, the congregation and key representatives from the Cathedral community. Based on its core values of worship, hospitality, education, community and reconciliation, the Cathedral has re-stated its primary purpose through an updated Mission Statement. Continuity is maintained by using the previous headline (Salisbury Cathedral exists to make real the glory and presence of God in the world), with six new statements as to how this is achieved in practice.
From this Mission Statement eight key objectives have been identified. A programme is currently being developed which it is hoped will lead to the achievement of the majority of this work by 2015 – the target date for the completion of the Major Repair Programme and the 800th anniversary of Magna Carta.
The Dean, the Very Revd June Osborne talking about Faith in the Future – our vision said, "Successful organisations must look ahead and be ready to meet change. Cathedrals are expected to balance modern business methods with a deep sense of moral purpose based on our Christian tradition. Whilst conscious of our traditions we are looking afresh at our direction, our goals and the resources we need to achieve these."
Faith in the Future – our vision is the first in a series of documents which will chart the Cathedral's development. Work is continuing to develop a fully costed programme, which will include the various aspects of change in the physical environment under a separate Masterplan.
