EXTREME CELLISTS PLAY AT SALISBURY CATHEDRAL - Archived
Issued Thursday 27th July 2006
Between 24 July and 4 August 2006, The Extreme Cellists visited all 42 Anglican Cathedrals in England playing in ‘extreme’ locations. They arrived at Salisbury Cathedral on the morning of July 26th to play from the west window balcony at triforium level.
By the end of their journey, Clare Wallace, James Rees and Jeremy Dawson had travelled over 1900 miles and visited almost every county in England. When asked why they were doing it they replied: “Well, there are two main reasons. Firstly, because we're mad, and we like a challenge! But secondly, and more importantly, because we want to raise money for two very worthwhile charities.
"These charities - Shelter and Aspire - have been chosen because both have names that are linked (loosely) with Cathedrals, and we are delighted to be able to support them.
"Shelter is a charity that helps provide practical support and advice for homeless people, in particular helping to find them homes, and helps those with homes to keep them. Aspire is a charity that provides support and rehabilitation for people with spinal cord injury.”
You can still support the Extreme Cellists venture, and these charities by donating online. Simply visit there website: extreme-cello.com for more information.
