What is there to see?

Salisbury Cathedral Salisbury and South Wiltshire Museum Wardrobe Military Museum

Salisbury Cathedral:
Salisbury is Britain’s finest medieval Cathedral! Built in just 38 years from 1220. It boasts Britain’s tallest spire, the world’s finest surviving original 1215 Magna Carta, Europe's Oldest Working Clock (1386) and much more!

Built in just 38 years (1220-58AD) the Cathedral is a magnificent example of Early English Gothic architecture. The Cloisters, Chapter House and West Front were all completed by 1266, with the spire (the tallest in Britain at 123m/404ft), added a generation later. See the unique 13th century frieze of bible stories in the octagonal Chapter House or relax and enjoy the choral music of our Boy and Girl Choristers that sing daily services, continuing a tradition of worship that goes back nearly 800 years.

Volunteers provide guided tours on most days highlighting the Cathedral's many treasures, including tours of the roof and tower.

Salisbury and South Wiltshire Museum
Salisbury Museum is an award-winning, friendly museum in a splendid Grade I listed building. It has collections of archaeology, fine art and local history.

The Costume Gallery showcases costumes and textiles from the area. Tableaux depict the lives of people in and around Salisbury from 1750 to 1980, including a soldier and his bride at their Regency wedding and Victorian mothers supervising their children.

The Downton Lace collection includes important displays of patterns, prickings and samples, bobbins and a bolster shaped pillow, illustrations, equipment and other memorabilia. The collection attracts interest worldwide.

The Wardrobe Military Museum
The Wardrobe Military Museum is housed in a Grade 2 listed building and has a beautiful riverside garden with views across the watermeadows.

There are many textile based objects in the Museum which help tell the story of the county infantry regiments of Berkshire and Wiltshire.

Groups of 15 or more which pre-book their visit can take advantage of our special group rate of just £7.00 per person. The group will be met on arrival at Salisbury Cathedral and given a guided tour by one of our volunteer guides. They can then explore one of the other two attractions with their individual tickets and enjoy a cup of coffee in any of the restaurants at these three attractions.
Groups must be pre-booked - call 01722 555124 or email groups@salcath.co.uk
