Friends of the Cathedral

Salisbury Cathedral

Since its completion 800 years ago the Cathedral has depended upon public generosity for its maintenance.

In 1930 'The Friends of the Cathedral' was formed to help by prayer and giving, to preserve and maintain the worship, music, traditions, furnishing and fabric of the Cathedral.

The Friends regularly contribute towards the upkeep of the Cathedral, having made grants totalling well over £2 million since they were founded. Projects include repairs to the Eastern Chapel roof, fireproofing of doors in the Tower, grants towards the restoration of the Cloisters, a new sound system for the Cathedral and the replacement of all 1800 chairs. (A full list of grants is available on the Friends' website www.salisburycathedralfriends.co.uk )

The most recent grants have been towards the design and installation of a new internal lighting scheme.

The generosity of members has enabled these and many other works to be undertaken. In order to continue our work for the Cathedral, it is vital that the numbers of Friends, and thus the support that we can give to the Cathedral, are increased.

Become a Friend today!

A Friend can do more than pay a subscription. A welcome is offered to anyone who wishes to give their time or talents, expertise or interest towards furthering the work of the Cathedral. Why not make your contribution now towards the huge task of maintaining our heritage for posterity.
