Friends of Salisbury Cathedral

Salisbury Cathedral

In 1930 ‘The Association of the Friends of Salisbury Cathedral’ was formed to help by prayer and giving, to preserve and maintain the worship, music, traditions, furnishing and fabric of the Cathedral, and to date have made grants totally well over £3,000,000 since they were founded.

The Friends regularly contribute funds to the Cathedral agreed through Executive Council Meetings. Major projects have included repairs to the Eastern Chapel roof, fireproofing doors in the Tower, repairs to the Cloisters, a new sound system and monument conservation. We underwrote the cost of replacing all 1800 chairs, and through the Chair Project, these chairs can still be sponsored and plaques attached to show your support. Most recently grants totalling £501,000 were paid towards the design and installation of a new internal and external lighting system. The Friends have also supported Chorister bursaries, replaced chorister songbooks, and maintained vestments and other precious objects.

The generosity of members has enabled these and many other works to be undertaken, and you can see a full list of grants on our website at www.salisburycathedralfriends.co.uk.

We give this support to the Cathedral through income from subscriptions, donations, legacies and income from investments, and to continue our work for the Cathedral, it is vital that we increase our membership.

We are currently considering how to help the Dean & Chapter provide essential new toilets and a storage area near the Chapter House. We want to help, but to do this we need your help!

Give through the Friends by Becoming a member, sending a donation, leaving a Legacy to us, or sponsoring a chair. A Friend can do more than pay - a warm welcome is offered to anyone who wishes to give their time or talents, expertise or interest towards furthering the work of the Cathedral.
